You'll find out about what they do and what they're inspired by on the daily. This week's post features Financial Reporting Manager, Tiffany Cooper.
The Basics:
Name: Tiffany A. Cooper
Job Title: Financial Reporting Manager
Where You're From: Queens, NY
An Inside Look:
You're the Financial Reporting Manager at NPR. What does that mean?
I am responsible for getting staff, managers, leadership, and the Board financial reports on NPR's activities. I also work very closely with our external auditors to complete the annual year-end financial statement audit.
How did you get started here? Or what advice do you have for someone who wants a job like yours?
I studied accounting as an undergrad. After graduation, I worked for a public accounting firm as an auditor assigned primarily to financial services and real estate corporate accounts. After five years of solid financial service experience, I decided to leave and seek out a position with a mission-driven organization that combines my interests and skill sets. Since joining NPR in 2011, my evolving role within the Finance department has provided me the opportunity to understand the fiscal decision-making responsibilities that execute the NPR mission and support the amazingly smart, creative, and dedicated staff making great content!
What's your favorite #nprlife moment?
I can't think of one moment in particular. It is exciting to come to work and see public figures I admire.
What are some of the coolest things you've worked on?
I was a selection committee member to secure the new NPR headquarters' café vendor and attended the multiple food tastings.
What's on your desk?
A stack of NPR's audited financial statements and board books, a photo of my father's childhood home in Jamaica, and the ticket stub of the 9/25/14 Giants vs Redskins game (Go Giants!).
Favorite Tiny Desk?
Lianne La Havas and Mariachi Flor De Toloache
Favorite places in the city?
Howard Theatre to check out my favorite R&B and reggae artists in concert, Cusbah Indian restaurant on H Street NE, Ice Cream Jubilee at the SW Waterfront
What are your guilty pleasures?

First thing you do when you get to the office?

What do you love about public radio?
The dedication to telling stories. The existence of public radio cannot be any more important than right now.
